Powers 13 Posted July 20, 2006 My Mi16 has recently developed this fault that makes it un-driveable! The car starts without any problems when cold. Idles perfectly around 900 rev/min. I can blip the throttle and the revs climb and fall without any hesitation or misfire. After the engine has been running for 5-10 mins so fairly warm, I open the throttle again, this time it hesitates, then as I let off the rev counter falls dramatically downwards to zero and then back up to idle speed! If I repeat the procedure it backfires and more often than not stalls. Then it is difficult to start back up. It obviously seems engine temperature related so i have ordered another ECU temp sensor, which should arrive tomorrow; i just cant explain the rev counter! Any help would be gratefully received. Powers 13 Posted July 20, 2006 Soured an Ecu temp sender and that hasnt made a difference. Changed coil, again no difference. The parts that are new: Spark plugs, leads, dis cap, rotor arm, ignition amp (tried a new intermotor 15010 and it didnt even start!), crank angle sensor. Could it be one of the 6 wires (Bx 16v loom into 205) are shorting! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Anthony 1,003 Posted July 20, 2006 If the rev counter is dropping to zero with the engine running then I'd double check the ignition amp/wiring, crank sensor, and ECU relay. No rev counter output means that you're not getting an output from the ignition amp, and hence either that's at fault, the ECU isn't recieving a timing signal from the CAS, or the ECU's not receiving any power. The fact that it's backfiring alot means I'd suspect ignition amp first and foremost as it sounds like it is still injecting fuel (which isn't being ignitioned and is chucked into the exhaust).
