Mi16 - Gasket For Water Stat Housing

Before I think I'm going crazy can someone just confirm whether the Mi16 (1.9 Alloy block) should or shouldn't have a gasket on the Water Stat housing that bolts to the side of the head?!

 

I thought there shoudl be one, popped into Pug and seems there isn't... just wanted confirmation

 

If not, should I use anything as a sealant on there or is just metal to metal contact going to be OK?

No there isn't one, which I also found strange.

 

I put a very light smear of clear silicone on the joint to make sure it sealed proerly.

yep 16v doesnt have a gasket on the housing.

 

i just use some gasket sealant though.

 

or you could make up a gasket using some gasket paper.
