thinking of installing a pas system to my 1.6 gti, is this difficult to replace or is there the need of professional hands to do the job ?

Depends how good you are :)

Its not really a difficult job. I think the most difficult part of the installation is routing the high pressure metal pipe around the engine. Not mechanically difficult, just a pain in the arse trying to feed it through all the pipes and wires etc.

Also, you will need to drop the subframe to fit the pas rack.

Check the main site for a how to guide

As Mak says, it' pretty much nuts and bolts really. If you manage to get the whole system from a donor car, you're laughing. There are some parts though that you may miss thinking that all the engines are the same.

The bracket holding the pump is required, new belt and I'm not too sure about the alternator mount. It's been a long time since I took my set up off and can't remember exactly if they are a combined mount or not.

Clips will be needed to route the solid cooling pipe under the car, you will need to remove a fair bit of piping etc anyhow to gain access and route the flexi pipes.

Positioning the resevior, you will need the bracket that attaches close to the slam panel. Obviously there is the piping etc and then the universal joint between rack and existing steering column. It's shorter than the non ps version due to the taller pinion gear on the rack.

Just a few things to look out for but easily forgotten none the less
