petert 586 Posted July 17, 2006 The 2L 405 and S16 engine are all but identical. I recommend buying the special four extended main bolts and a windage tray from the S16. You also skim the block 1mm, not the head. The parts and costs are otherwise identical to rebuilding a 1.9L Mi16 engine.
205_sunderland 4 Posted July 18, 2006 i was only going to skim the head incase it has been overheated prior as i dont know engine history, and what are you refering too by windage tray? is there a benefit from extended main bolts. another question also is how much is it usually to rebuild a mi lump then? Bono 0 Posted July 18, 2006 the four extended main bolts have a longer head with another thread in. The windage tray bolts on to these four bolt heads below the crank.
Sam 4 Posted July 18, 2006 Bono do you have a spare windage tray and four bolts? IIRC you're rebuilding one?
Bono 0 Posted July 18, 2006 i don't have one spare at the moment i'm afraid. I might when i swap engines, although i was hoping to sell the block as a whole.
