Mi16 Water Thermostat - Colder For Track Use?

Recommended Posts

Jonmurgie

Need to get myself a water thermostat for the new engine... is it worth getting a colder stat that opens sooner seeing as it's pretty much for track use only and I won't be running a heater in the car at all?

What is the temp of the standard Mi stat if anyone knows?

iirc the thermostat is 89c as standard.

the heater in the car has hot coolant circulating regardless of whether the thermostat is open or closed.

As there's no heater that is an idea but I've heard tale that it's not best doing that as it can take too long for the water to warm up... I wonder what Miles recommends

Running no thermostat is very foolish. Your car will never heat up properly. You might want to try a restrictor however. A flat piece of plate with say a 20mm hole, like the thermostat would have when its open. You may have to experiment with the hole size, but the same as thermostat is a good start.

I would run a electric pump as that is what my next car is having,

But when I ran mine I did without a stat, but that was a pure 15mins of flat out racing and getting the car warm before going out, so a stat is good as I take it your driving it on the road still
