Cleaning Your Air Intake

Recommended Posts

Guest CJG122

Compared to the other erratic idle problems I have read through in this forum I seem to be well off.

I however have been on a quest to smooth out the reving at idle which tends to go between 1300 and can ocassionally drop to 800 before cutting out.

I have not yet attempted this but have found a suggestion to assist in smoothing ide reving - cleaning the air intake with carb cleaner.

Will this have an effect ?

This certainly won't do any harm. Take the throttle body off and give it a good clean, especially around the butterfly.

Yes it will. I've done this to my 1.9 8v.

i took the inlet off, all breather hoses and cleaned them. Remember to take off electrical componatnts, but the difference is alot better, runs better mpg, better idle and goes a little bit better aswell.

It will make a difference if it is not currently clean. Probably most important is to clean the AFM.

the idle screw in the throttle body was the culprit when my gti was stalling and idling low, take it right out when u clean the TB ,and give it a good clean in petrol or similar.
