mossy 0 Posted July 11, 2006 Hi Pips, Not been on here for a while. I'll start with things that have been done to the car in the last year: STD 1.9 GTi 1991 Non Cat New:- Ignition amp Coil Leads Plugs Dizzy cap Rotor arm Plugs Battery All filters and fluids Tappets done Cracked manifold repaired ( thats why tappets were done ) AFM retracked 2 years ago SAD cleaned aswell as all pipe work Now the trouble I'm having is at 2K rpm and 4K rpm there is a deffinant miss/hesitation and the needle on the rev counter jumps up by 100 rpm. Has anyone else had this problem as its not an easy one to solve as all the ignition side of things have been replaced or swapped. Also checked the spark plugs and they are very clean and have a whitish tint to the tip I've tested with new plugs NGK 6's and 7's. Can any one help I have search. Cheers Al. hexhamstu 9 Posted July 11, 2006 i had a similair problem, changed the ign amp first, it was still there. changed a whole list of other things. changed the ign amp again. and it fixed it. make sure you buy a bosch one!
jackherer 543 Posted July 11, 2006 yeah sounds like the ign amp, did you use new thermal paste when you fitted the new amp?
Veero 1 Posted July 12, 2006 I bought a brand new ignition module from ECP which turned out to be the wrong one and caused no end of misfiring grief on my Mi. I spent about 2 weeks with it off the road, getting the train to work and tinkering in the evenings replacing virtually every other single component. I was on the verge of giving up and thought sod it, let's try my old ignition amp, hey presto fixed. ECP sold me a 7 pin one when the plug has only 6 pins connected up. Was NOT a happy bunny. mossy 0 Posted July 12, 2006 Heat sink paste was used. If I remember correctly the Amp is made by Motor craft correct 6 pin. Any one any ideas on the colour of the plugs????? The car pulls well and does not seem down on power. I always use super unleaded. Can any remember the resistance readings for the ECU temp sensor?? Also a bit off the original topic I'm researching in using the KE set up from a Vauxhall 2 ltr which use an Idle control valve and Crank sensor ( already fitted to the 205 ) All connections are the same ( Bosch components ) The ICV could be fiitted where the SAD This set up works OK and would solve the Idleling problems ( Hopefully ) Any one got any thoughts????? Al. The first thought I have is just how close are the 2 engines in how they work, ie: Is the firing order the same? I guess this will be from a 8V so timing is somewhere near right. Is the ecu trigger the same and triggers at the same possition/time as the 205? There's probably some more issues, but I like the idea.
mossy 0 Posted July 13, 2006 THE VAUXHALL 2 LTR 8V ENGINE IS VERY SIMULAR. THE ECU CONTROLS THE IGNITION TIMING SO THE DISTRIBUTOR WOULD BE SET AT TDC AND THE ECU SHOULD DO THE REST. ALSO IT HAS ON OCTANE RATING PLUG TO SWITCH BETWEEN 95 AND 98 RON OF COURSE THIS WOULD BE SET AT 98 RON . THE TDC SENSOR ON THESES ENGINES ARE TRIIGERED FROM THE CRANK SHAFT DIRECT SO THIS NEEDS TO BE CHECKED OUT BUT I THINK ITS SET AT 90 DEG BEFORE TDC WHITCH IS QUITE COMMON. THIS COULD ALWAS BE SORTED WITH A TRIGGER WHEEL MOUNTED ON THE CRANK SHAFT PULLY. DOES ANY KNOW WHAT DEG THE TRIIGER IS SET AT ON THE 205???? MORE RESEARCH TO BE DONE .
