Bit of a long overdue update... missed the deadline of Donington on the 15th so have made a few changes/additions to the spec of the car that will add a bit more build time but I'm sure it will be worth it :)

So the things I've done over the past few weeks mean my work is pretty much done... it's all wiring now so I'm just bugging my mate Curtis to get it done!

Couple of weeks ago we did get the engine cranking to get the oil pressure up in the block. I had fitted a Mocal pressure gauge so we could see easily when pressure was reached, as the oil has to come from way in the back you have to be careful with the priming, doing most of it by turning the pump by hand, we then used a mix of spinning the starter (but it was a bit slow) and then just putting a drill on the dry sump pump and spinning it that way.

Before all that though we realised I'd managed to plumb the oil through the remote oil filter head the wrong way (doh!) so that meant I had to order a replacement filter head from pace with the in/out the other way (hence the recent for sale thread).

Anyhow, got a bit of a vid from the cranking here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkXCuBfVyLY

The brakes were also done a few weeks ago and were bled with Dot 5.1 (thanks to PS for the fluid!). Doing it at PS was handy as they have a fancy machine that pressurises the system through the filler cap and pushes fluid through the system and the air out. Took a while and still doesnt feel great on the pedal but Ill have to see what thats like when the cars up and running.

All the fuel lines are now in and I put in some alloy bridges across the back seat area to support the pipework and Im really chuffed with how its worked out. Typically I was about 1m short of braided hose so thats been fitted with just black rubber for now, Ill change that soon though!

So with the water also in thats all fluids sorted :)

Last week I just tied up a few of the small things like throttle linkage and ignition leads and its now looking a little something like this:

More updates as they happen, lods of pics here: http://www.mdracing.co.uk/rebuild.asp and I've also added an RSS feed for the updates for those of you into that kind of thing :)

Looking top notch jon (as expected) first time ive had a gander around the forum in a while and im glad its all coming together. Was the pace guide written by <insert his name ive forgotten> helpful in the end?

The guide was by Antoni and it was very helpful for a few things here and there as essentially Pace give you NO instuctions at all, not even which way to plumb the actual pump!

Currently torn over which ECU to go for right now, and waiting for a major new 'part' to arrive so it may be a fair few weeks yet still...

Did I miss something? New ECU? What happened to the MOTEC ?

Well it's actually WHICH MoTeC to go for... the one I used earlier this year (M48) was actually loaned as I never got around to buying my own, but then the car broke after about 6 weeks so I've put it off until now.

The dilema is, do I buy an ecu good enough for the 205 or do I spend a little more and future proof the ecu for other cars I may have in the years to come. I'm seeing the MoTeC as an investment rather than just for this car you see... the decision is a matter of around £500 difference...

Future proof, but then again if you attempt to sell the car as a whole.....

Im assuming you wont do the above so get the best you can afford. Life's for living.

Am i correct in assuming the car will be live mapped at PS?

Yeah, it will be mapped on the dyno by PowerStation who are somewhat God's amongst the MoTeC dealers/mappers out there :(

James R has always tried to sell emerald as an investment to me, but imo, splitting the ecu when it comes to selling the car does no favours to either you or the next buyer. It means the buyer will knock you down to cover the cost of a replacement ecu (assuming current ecus are backwards compatable) and means youre attached to an ecu which is x years old and could be a pointless artifact.

IIRC kate had some issues when she originally got an emerald, and required new hardware anyway.

Kate's ECU is slightly older than my M3D which is 9 years old.

Her's was not able to be upgradeable which I'm also in the same boat but the ECU does what it needs to do for my engine requirements.

lol it becomes an investment when you go through so many engines with as wider ranging specs as james!

remember you might not necessarily be selling the whole car minus the ecu, but uprgrading the engine (or in james' case blowing it up )

kate had issues because she bought an old second hand emerald, not as an investment but because it was cheap!

Slow progress as all I can do is nag Curtis to get on with the loom... but it's almost ready to be clipped in so hopefully in the next few days that will be done :D

my guess is that it's an M400

Well it's a MoTeC but not the M400... I just can't quite afford that right now so I've gone for the M4 as that will be perfect for the current application and I'm confident they have very good re-sale values so if I need to go to an M400 in future I can just sell the M4 on... should be here today :o
