Well thta would be nice, and a bigger benifit if being turbo'd, but for now that's an expensive I'm glad to exclude! Will sort out getting the head back to you BTW :P

We have ceramic coated the inside of the downpipe plus the turbo exhaust housing on our RX7, supposed to make a noticeable difference - i'll let you know when it's back on track.

I've just read a good article on manifolds (or headers as they call them here) and it had some very good information on primary lengths/bore based on cam spec. I'll try and scan it in when I can. The magazine was called 'Turbo' mind you, but the article covered N/A theory as well.

my engine bay is already looking rather dirty. You'd better order a multipack of toothbrushes jon :P

Doesn't take long does it :(

C-Coating the manifold would cost more than a new one I suspect!

Totally... though I guess leading on from the ideas dicussed in my Manifold thread that having one designed for the engine would cost a fair bit and then may be worth coating? Though again as an N/A doesn't run as hot as Turbo application is there any real need anyhow?

The idea behind it is that the hotter the gas the faster it moves (basic physics) so if you can contain all the heat inside the manifold/exhaust then it doesn't disipate, the gas is super heated and moves quicker emptying the cylinder more and allowing more mixture in.

There's no NEED for it no, but if you had the inside and outside coated and were careful so none chipped off then it would last aaaaages.

Saying that, you could just get it made in Inconel or something in the first place maybe

Ah, that's cunning then and may be something to look into should I decide to go totally bonkers on the car!

Anyhow, trial fitted the header tank last night... shows it needs a little tweaking to get how/where I want but generally it's all good:

Starter motor also went on:

And today the last of the braided hose arrived, 10m of fuel pipe!

Inconel is far far farkin expensive though, simpson race exhausts do nice stuff - we have just had a full system inc manifold made for a race Alfa 146 and there wasn't much change from £1300 but it is sweet as you like, computer designed bends and lengths - awesome.

I take it you'll be cutting that fuel hose up a bit Jon?

If so, just a little tip from when I did mine - where you want to cut it, wrap the area tightly with insulation tape, then just cut through it with a Dremal cutting disc - makes a nice neat cut with no fraying :D

Yeah, that's just a 10m length that will be cut up and used as necessary... it's a great tip that though, with the insulation tap, though I know that already it's worth pointing out!

Got soooooooooooooooo much to get done over the weekend, a few mates are coming over and I hope to have it all to about 90% finished, with just the manifold fitting, brake bleeding (both of those wil be done on the ramp @ PS) and the engine wiring left to complete... we shall see if we get that far I guess!

Well it was a long and hard weekend and lots got done, though I guess there's still loads to do as the Fuel Lines aren't in at all and as I 'misplaced' the header tank there's still no water in the car!

Anyhow a couple of pics

Could you not move your dry sump tank further forward and lower?

Not criticising Jon, your doing a sterling job.

I hear what your saying... I have looked at several differnt locations including right up in the passenger footwell but it seems to fit nicely back there... also being as far away form me makes me a little happier what with all that hot oil sloshing about!

As the fittings are re-useable and I have the length of hose to fit it way back there, I guess I COULD move it at a later date if I feel it needs to, but for now I'm just wanting the damn thing back together and running!

Cheers

Jon
