Guest smokinslim Posted July 11, 2006 Has anyone used Gates PowerGrip timing belts and what are your thoughts on them? I've just taken delivery of one of their kits as my tensioner was falling apart, the belt seems a bit on the thin side in comparison to the Goodyear one i removed (which still seems good but has done more than it's fair share of miles). 16v205 9 Posted July 11, 2006 Ive used Gates cambelts in the past, ive just taken one off my mi16 thats had a bit of a hard life Ive also just fitted a Gates timing belt kit for my gti-6 engine but there didnt appear to be any size difference between that one and the dayco one that was on it. Dont think it matters anyway really as its a completely different manufacturer so they cant be compared just by the physical size of the belt. Rich
jim21070 2 Posted July 11, 2006 I've used Gates timing and auxillary belts with no problems whatsoever. Being more used to doing XUD timing belts I always think the XU belt looks a bit like a tiny rubber band.
