hexhamstu 9 Posted July 10, 2006 the steering feels really heavy, then really light, then really heavy and so on, as you turn the wheel. its got PAS so am i right in thinking it needs a new rack? wheres the best place to buy one? autofive didnt have a PAS one listed. and GSF seems expensive? C_W 3 1 Cars Posted July 10, 2006 A new recon'd pas rack will be expensive unfortunately. The symptoms you describe don't sound like its worn out though, as normaly it would just feel sloppy off centre if it's worn. Try checking the pas fluid and maybe top mounts/struts? hexhamstu 9 Posted July 10, 2006 what could be wrong with the top mounts or struts?
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted July 10, 2006 The top mount bearings can rust up solid and then the strut moves on the rubber which again wear out, After experacing a GSF rack and a Recon Pug one even thou it was twice as much I would now always use the Pug one
hexhamstu 9 Posted July 10, 2006 the bearings looked f***ed when i took them out, didnt have any new ones to hand so reused them! good job lads!!
hexhamstu 9 Posted July 10, 2006 01ST011 Top mount kit complete each side .Only 2 available found this on autofive, what does this include? my guess is the rubber the bearing and the actual top mount? but thought i would ask first?
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted July 10, 2006 You can get the kit from any GSF or ECP store no doubt cheaper, The kit is just the bearing and rubber ring, But if poss order just the bearing and a Gp'N' hard rubber
hexhamstu 9 Posted July 10, 2006 i just put grp n rubbers in, its only done about 500-700 miles since they were put in, its being doing the steering thing for most of that. will they have been destroyed?
C_W 3 1 Cars Posted July 10, 2006 Nah I doubt it, they are pretty tough. As Miles said you only need the bearing really the rest of the "kit" are bits that don't wear out like the top nut and that little cup/washer.
hexhamstu 9 Posted July 10, 2006 the top mounts are pretty rusty looking? but i guess they'll hold up.
mi16nut 0 Posted July 14, 2006 You can get the bearings on their own (@ £6 when I bought them I think) from GSF, but they're listed for a Citroen Berlingo! Mark.
