Mi16 - Oilpumpgear Upgrade.

Recommended Posts

Guest Cartooner

I have an XU9J4 (D6C) engine with the dreaded keyless crank sprocket for the oilpump. I dediced to replace it with a 26 teeth keyed sprocket and accompanying longer chain from an XU10J4. Here You can see it fits and it is held in place with the key.

When I now place the cover it, You can see that the keyed part of the sprocket now protrudes through the seal of the cover.

Now the old distr.belt pulley will slide on, held in place with it's own key

What worries me is that in the old situation there was spacer-ring that you slide onto the crank up against the sprocket as seen on this pic where I have left the cover off.

With the cover on it looks like this and you can see that when the dist.pulley is slided on there now is an edge which might(?) be necessary to prevent the belt from running of the pulley.

In the new situation I can not use this spacerplate and therefore have an open side on the innerside of the pulley as You can see on the third pic.

Can I run it this way or do I need the 'edge' to keep the belt from moving sideways. Or should I perhaps use another pulley.

your help is much appreciated,

Cheers.

Miles

Just fit the XU10J4RS lower drive pulley if you have adjustable pulleys, as the only thing is it's half a tooth out compared to the old Mi one,

Does that one have an 'edge' Miles? I haven't got adjustable pulleys(yet), so that's another problem on the list. How much does halve a tooth on the lower pulley change my cam timings in degrees?

perhaps it is an option to buy the pulley from the XU10J4RS and than grind another key groove in it in the approriate spot on the opposing side?.

cheers.

Or fit the 26T sprocket from the S16. It mounts the same as the XU9 sprocket. Tension it up properly and you wont have a problem.

I don't think the sprocket above is from an XU10J4, as S16 and 2.0L Mi16 have friction drive.

This sprocket is said to be from a XU10J4RS ( part nr.51378) and it came with a rubber o-ring that has to be placed on the crank first.

I also have the other 26T sprocket from the S16 which sadly is also friction based. Guess my options are now or buying the lower pulley from the XU10J4RS also or do a step back to friction-based and use the S16 sprocket. But I started all this to get rid off the friction design!
