SPGTi 2 Posted July 9, 2006 Is there a "How to ......" on installing and setting up eccentric top mounts. I just want to be sure that I mark up exactly where "standard position" and run like that before I start playing around with any different positions. cheers Steve
Jonmurgie 2 Posted July 9, 2006 There isn't really a 'standard' position and you'll need to get it on an aligner as soon as they are fitted and before you do any serious driving as it will be a fair bit different that before As for the final position of the mounts, when I first fitted mine I put them to full camber (i.e. the center bit as far IN as possible) but that I realised that I was missing out on a little castor, so now I have mine set so they are both kind of pointing in and back towards the windscreen and it's a happy medium of camber/caster

jonah 1 Posted July 10, 2006 Is there a "How to ......" on installing and setting up eccentric top mounts. I just want to be sure that I mark up exactly where "standard position" and run like that before I start playing around with any different positions. If I've understood eccentric top mounts properly, it's not possible to get the standard position with them. You can position the top mount anywhere along a circular arc, but standard position would be in the centre of that circle. So you can have standard camber with caster at its minimum or maximum setting, or standard caster with camber at its minimum or maximum setting, but not both standard. engine killer 6 Posted July 11, 2006 thanks Jonmurgie btw, does the extra castor degree slower the steering response (not as sharp as before)? jonah, i guess without the adjustable wishbone, the one below is the only solution for you to have http://community.webshots.com/photo/540539...084130750fcYwIZ
Jonmurgie 2 Posted July 11, 2006 Haven't noticed any difference in steering responce speed... it did make the steering a little heavier but I prefer it like that as the car then feels more stable at speed on the track
engine killer 6 Posted July 11, 2006 thanks a lot. with 1.7degree or slightly more camber, i found it goes quite unstable on bumpy road at speed. my pas can take care of the little heavier steering, so i will go for a higher degree of castor but lesser camber soon. thanks again.
