Diesel Gearbox Mating

Recommended Posts

Hey Dudes! Long time no post eh :P

So i have took the stdt off the road. The engine is a bit poorly to be honest and its time to properly fix the headlight shells that the previous owner fcuked about with. Its now been plonked in my ma's garage.

I'm planing on upgrading the engine to a 1.9TD (XUD9TE to be precise) and have stripped the front down and have taken pretty much everything of the engine for spares for my other 205td.

Its time to drop the block out but I'm not sure if I should take the box out with it or not. Hence my question, Can a 1.7 box be mated with a 1.9 engine and if so would it be adviseable? I've read that a lot of our petrol cousins keep the 1.6 box when using a 1.9 engine because of the preformance you get with that combination and I have so much space to work in now it will be a doddle to leave the box in as I drop the block out.

OR seen as I would like to get rid of any tin worm in the engine bay and paint it all should I just get everything out of the bay? (still would like to know about the mating question if so though)

Ta

You have the XUD9 gearbox on a XUD7 engine right? Have you noticed any difference that way around?

I'm satarting to wonder if they both just use the same gearbox?

If so I would transpland the two together as a whole given the opitunity (man spelling is hard sometimes)

IIRC they are exactly the same gearbox with the same ratios, but I can't see there being any problems so long as it's a BE3 (I would be very surprised if it wasn't).

How are you going to get an exhaust to fit? I've heard that the turbo is angled differently on the XUD9 engines and you need to get a custom downpipe.

Cheers Grim.

As for the exaust, yeah I had a feeling that would be the case.

Has anyone already recorded the shape that the down pipe will need to be?

I'm not sure it would work but you could always try fitting a turbo and manifold from a 205 XUD7T.

I've no idea about the measurements; this is a project I wanted to do a year ago but couldn't find anything useful. Very few people have done the conversion, compared to Mi, and they don't seem to spend much time on the forums

Good idea. I had better rescue the spare xud7 turbo from the back of the garage and bung some wading in the ends for later.
