Car Audio/electric Experts?

i know this isn't 205 related, but there may be someone who knows the answer...

 

got in my a3 to go out this evening, and the radio is lit up. not switched on, not making a noise, just lit up. whether key's in or out, if its locked up or driving, its lit up. i can hear it doing something, sounds like its trying to change cd's or change tracks.

 

its the symphony head unit with a tape player beneath a in-dash 6 cd changer. it won't do anything, no amount of pressing buttons helps, its just ignoring me. i know a good bit about stereos in cars and the like and i've got all kinds of random removal keys, but had no success in even removing the head unit from the car, so i've had to give up. :lol:

 

i've removed the negative battery lead till tomorrow, but i'm in scarborough most of the day, and need it for work on monday morning. <_<

 

any ideas? (anyone suggesting an audi garage or buy a french car etc will be hunted down and shot!) :blink:

Might be a crappy idea (sorry if it is) but you could try asking Halfords how they remove the standard HU? Their fitters must have replaced one at some point

true enough, i can imagine it being a bastard of a job though cos all the gubbins to make a 6cd changer work in the confines of a dashboard must be well complicated. i decided to give up riving at it when things started to creak! good idea though, thanks.

 

any more suggestions? no one else took one or similar to bits?

ps, why's this sort of thing happen on a saturday evening? who said german cars are reliable?

ok. panic over lads!

 

rang my dad and whinged about it, he said 'try reconnecting the battery, it might of settled down'.

 

so i did and now its fine!

 

how ace are dads? <_<

now you need to pretend it never happened <_<

 

give it a day or two and you can go back to telling people how reliable german cars are :blink:

its probly true. i've already apologised to the car for saying it was unreliable, and trying to punch the sh1t out of it when i couldn't fix it! :lol:

for future reference, they're a piece of piss to remove - there's two slots on the front of the radio (bout 1cm long by about 2mm wide), get some Kenwood radio release keys (or anything that's small enough to fit into the hole width wise, but half the length (so 5mm by 2mm)) and if you wiggle it up and down you'll feel a metal tab either at the top or at the bottom - what you do is push against this tab and it will click back about a centimetre, then you can stick a finger in the tape slot and pull.

 

as for the changer gubbins, it's one wire with a 8 pin cinch plug, that's about it - nothing resembling a rats nest by a long shot :lol:
