Livelee 0 Posted July 7, 2006 Hi I drive a stripped 309 GTi, it weights about 900kg without me in it. Currently it has standard brakes from a 307 HDi up front and standard 309 rear. I do about 3 / 4 track days a year and then also some local car park autotests. What i'm after is a reccomendation for upgraded disc and pads for the front and where I can find some replacement standard disc and pads for the rear. Oh and braided brake lines, are these worth the money and should I do front and rear or just fronts? Costs and suppliers for all please. Oh and I also need a head gasket, i've been told to buy original Peugeot HG and bolts. Advice? The engine is an Mi16 running about 170bhp. Many Thanks Dan
TEKNOPUG 3 Posted July 7, 2006 Definitely fitted braided hoses all round. The rear brakes do very little work so you can replace these with OE parts. Mintex 1144/1155's or Ferodo DS2000/3000's (I think) would be a good upgrade on pads for the front. I wouldn't bother with paying for fancy discs. If this still isn't sufficient then look for the bigger 307 brakes and calipers. I think that Hdi's are in the middle at 269mm, whereas standard 205's are 147mm and the larger 307's at 285mm. or use 206 GTi 180 brakes at 287mm. I'm sure that someone will correct me regarding the exact disc sizes....
Livelee 0 Posted July 7, 2006 Thanks that's good advice. Could you reccomend a good (cheap) online supplier for them? My brakes are from a 2.0 HDi, not sure if that makes a size difference?
jim205GTI 3 Posted July 7, 2006 the 2.0 hdi does have the 180 discs on......... thats the set i have on mine and they run very close to the rim!
Livelee 0 Posted July 7, 2006 Are the 1155's available for the 307 brakes? http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk this is one place i've found selling mintex pads but they only seem to have the 1144s for 206gti (which i'm right in thinking are the same as the 307)
smckeown 1 Posted July 8, 2006 (edited) In the upgrades you list avove, you mean feredo ds2500 not ds2000 Edited July 8, 2006 by smckeown
mi16nut 0 Posted July 8, 2006 Are you getting brake fade with the 37 set up? Bearing in mind a 307 HDi weighs over 1400kgs the standard discs & pades should be fine. If not, change the fluid to a good Super DOT 4 or DOT 5.1. Braided hoses would be a good idea if you can. 1144's are @ £100 for the front when I looked. Couldn't find 1155's & I don't think Ferodo list anything at all. I put standard Bosch pads on mine & they were excellent on track & cost £30. I'd stay with decent oe quality plain discs; less chance of warping or cracking. For the rear, GSF or Eurocarparts stuff will be fine. Mark.
Livelee 0 Posted July 8, 2006 Cheers mark. £100 is a bit tasty, i might go standard like you say. However i've just read the sticky brake thread above and it turns out the 307 "upgrade" is actually a downgrade.

Livelee 0 Posted July 10, 2006 I've no idea and I wouldn't be able to argue the case with anybody either. I've taken some advice from some mechanics I know and they are of the opinion that breaking would be dangerous in the wet without the compensator. The only way to do it properly would be with an adjustable valve and a break testing thingy to set it all up properly. I mC moves at least an inch when I brake hard so i'm getting a brace made to hold it in place and i'll fit braided lines.
mi16nut 0 Posted July 10, 2006 I've also read the pinned topic, and whilst I understand some of the theories (not all; physics was not my thing) all I can offer is my own experience. My car definitely brakes more strongly with the 307 set up, although it is probably a little less stable on the limit of braking grip; the balance issue I guess. Certainly no fade at all & much later braking on track. Funnily there didn't seem to the balance issue as much on track, so some of it is down to the camber/ tramlining on the road with my 309 wishbones. I have new compensators in (one started leaking almost immediately after fitting the 307 gear). Mark.
