Changed My Rad Today

Recommended Posts

ady

for the past week or two i have had real problems with the car running way too hot even whilst moving, up in the top 3/4 of the gauge. then today going to work sat in traffic the car actually overheated. so thought it would be best to sort it! :)

rad was 47 quid through halfords on my trade card as i work there.. pretty cool.

whipped the old one out, was totally shagged! could actually see straight through some parts it had corroded so much.

just been out for a good thrash and its perfect again! just sat about the third mark the whole time, well happy deffo put the smile back on my face! ;)

new engine next on the job list

Do you have a Trade Card or just staff discount?

I get stuff on a trade card and up to 40% off and often when I go in there the employees are pissed since they only get 15%...

Anyway a Nissen rad is £44 from ECP.

I put a new rad in on my Mi and it still runs warm, never had the warning light come on but in traffic it does sit quite high and Im always watching the dial. -_-

I just did mine the other day and it was a piece of cake. Mind you, I did have the inlet manifold off so had more clearance.

You just need to remove the slam panel - a few bolts/screws on the top and at the front in and behind the grill. Remove the coolant pipes and the plug to the termostat in the side of the rad, then you just release the springs cathes at the top and lift it out.

The only problems you are likely to have are corroded nuts/bolts/screws, and the usual hassle with getting coolant pipes off.

yeah i had trouble with getting the grill off because of the rounded off screws! other than that it was pretty simple. quick tip, make sure you put the temperature sensor in the new rad BEFORE you put it in the car! lol

i did look at GSF but their prices are without VAT and delivery right?

we got given a staff trade card, so i get the best of both worlds. actually get quite a good discount on some things with the trade card.
