stutto 0 Posted July 6, 2006 The starter died on my 1.9 and after reading a few posts on the forum I decided to buy a diesel one as it was only a little more than the petrol. My problem is that the brace/strut that runs from the bottom of the inlet manifold won't bolt to the block as the larger starter is fouling it. Has anyone else found this and how did they get around it? Chris.
Ahl 4 Posted July 6, 2006 Do you mean the brace that attaches to the back of the starter motor? If so, just bin it, its not needed.
stutto 0 Posted July 7, 2006 Do you mean the brace that attaches to the back of the starter motor? If so, just bin it, its not needed. It is a small black powder coated bar with an 11mm bolt at each end. It attaches to the manifold next to where the coolant hose does and also to the block. The bottom is bent round so that the face sits flat on the block.
stutto 0 Posted July 7, 2006 Well I had to add a small bracket to enable the bar to be done up. Apologies for picture quality, it was taken with my phone. In case anyone else has the same issue in the future the 'bracket' that I had made had 25mm between the hole centres, a rise of 10mm and was 20mm wide. It was by no means the optimum solution but it worked. Chris.
