Oops! Diesel In A Petrol!

Recommended Posts

So Ant's not the biggest Wally today! In a rush today I put £10 of diesel in the cti! Was going to a suit fitting for a wedding on sat so got a lift home to the gti.

Just now emptied the diesel - connected a supply to the fuel pump and left it pump into a big bucket, then filled with £10 of unleaded. Started well but runs horrible! Runs very hot with no power at all.

I need to decide now wether to fill up with more unleaded and hope for the best, or change the tank and filter with the cti I'm breaking. Opinions?

Big thanks go to Craig in a mondeo, who I'd never met, who offered a lift and assistance! "I've got one of those!" he said (a gti) on the way home. Turned out he owns the series 1 I've been thinking of buying, and I have spoken to him a couple of times on the phone! Friendly bunch these puggers though.

Put as much petrol in as you can as you need to dilute the remaining diesel as much as possible. Once it's all run through I'd change the fuel filter to be on the safe side.

second that, fill it with petrol, clean the plugs, change the filter, ull probly splutter now and again for a tank or two but no major damage will occur.

it is worth checking the oil and changing it and the filter too however as the desel dosent always burn and instead is forced past the rings into the sump, where it acts as a thinner!

HAHAHAHAHAHA! sorry , i fail to see how ppl manage to fill up with the wrong full!!!

As Ryan said, fill it up fully with petrol and it'll be fine. A small amount of diesel in the petrol won't do much, but you were probably right to drain the 10L.

You don't need to change the filter as the diesel will pass through it no problem. Its different in a diesel car where the filter is much finer and can cause problems.

Plenty of people seem to manage, I guess were not all as perfect as you. Still, you will at some point anyway. :)
