Pictures Of Leaking Valve Stem Seals.

Hi,

 

Took my running Mi engine out on Sat, as I want to test my spare Mi. It ran fine apart from being a bit smokey.

 

After taken off the exhausts manifold I could see the following:

 

 

With closer inspection I could see oil on the valve stem:

 

 

One cylinder looked fine:

 

 

I take it this is the sign of knackered stem seals?

Now thats a lot of oil!

 

I guess few people have actually seen the valve stems when leaking. If its smoking and using some oil then it all seems quite likely.

The core plug seems to be leaking also

 

Cant really see in the pictures, but its interesting to see how the oil has kept the valves & exhaust port cleaner.

 

The valve stems have a 'ghostly' look about them. They where nice and shiny about 2500miles ago!

Its not hard to fix the core plugs if I recall. Try a search.
