Ant 2 Posted July 5, 2006 Well i was rushing, got use to putting unleaded in my 205 again and i think the sun was frying my brain.. So i win idiot of the day and put £18 of unleaded in a diesel. Drove it a few miles last night and it died - suprise suprise - thats when i realised what i'd done.. So got the AA to take me home, and ive drained all the petrol out, and put £20 of diesel back in the tank.. Also unscrewed the prime screw on the engine and pumped fuel through, so it should be just mainly diesel.. Still wont start though.. When i try, the speedo and rev meter go nuts and the indicators flash.. Ideas ? And yes yes yes - I know i'm an idiot, moron, fool lol.. If it wasnt soooo embarasing, it would be funny
pugrallye 0 Posted July 5, 2006 you should really be changing fuel filter too, and keep kicking it over, is it a 205 deisel?
Greenys_meanies 0 Posted July 5, 2006 mmmmm that was silly. try cracking the nuts on top of the injectors and crank over the engine to force diesel right up to the injectors. it will work as thats the same proceedure as if you had run out of diesel, unless you've killed the engine with the petrol. as for the electrical problems...dunno sounds weird...is your battery going flat from all the starting? Miles 331 1 Cars Posted July 5, 2006 It all depends on what type of Derv it is, The old engines are fine and do normally run with petrol in the system, But all the new High Pressure injection Derv's just shut down with any unleaded in the system
Sam 4 Posted July 5, 2006 I had to sort out my friends C15 after he done this. I siphoned the tank and filled with diesel, it took a while to start but did eventually.
Ant 2 Posted July 5, 2006 Its a 306 Derv, 1998 R reg... Ill get a new fuel filter today and see how i go
Sam 4 Posted July 5, 2006 Just keep trying to start it, it will eventually!!
Grim.Badger 15 Posted July 5, 2006 Yep I agree, change the filter, make sure it's all primed and keep cranking till it starts. Puls if that fails do as Greenys says and loosen the injectors. Keep an eye on all the seals for a while though, but I doubt that you'd have any problems with them as iirc it's usually diesel in a petrol that destroys seals. aeinstein 0 Posted July 5, 2006 just a thought, could the electrical problems and the not starting be the car in some kind of safe mode, to prevent further damage? as someone else said, modern diesels are complicated things. that and there are far more computers on there than the french have any idea what to do with. good luck, and remember, the more work you do to get it running again, the less likely you are to do it again! al
Ant 2 Posted July 6, 2006 Cheers for the replies lads. Think it was a flattened battery... Wouldnt start at all last night.. tried, but the battery kept dying when cranking.. So charged it all night, and it started first thing Looks like its all fine.. wont be doing that again Cheers dudes
