What Is The Difference Between

Recommended Posts

Ok following on from this thread I have nearly got my new front suspension setup sorted out. I am just after some 10.5" 185lbs/in springs. Comments are usually banded about (as in this months PPC) that you can get them for £10 each. I have been searching and can only find them in the £15 + vat (rally Design) up to £50 + vat each. With the majority seeming to be in the £20 to £25 each range.

Is there much difference in performance between the springs or is it that the more expensive springs will keep their free length better/ longer? I am after 2.25" ID by the way.

Oh yeah, the suspension I went for in the end was/is

Strut bodies and hard wear (platforms, locking rings, eccentic top mounts ) from Comp Brake

Bilstein Inserts from either AB or WMMS

Springs - still searching.

Reason I went for this setup was that I felt adjustability was not needed. How do you set up for a road rally where you have no idea what the surfaces will be like any way ? I prefer the robustness of the the 40mm inverted monotube setup from Bilstein. The setup has been proved time and time again on the sort of terrain I use the car on.

Other possibilities such as AST, GAZ seemed more track focused and as I said adjustability would just confuse me. Also running the thinner inserts was a bit worrying after I was shown some bent ones off another road rally car.

now I don't know about many other manufacturers but Eibach reckon theirs are some of the lightest springs on the market and are about £50 odd rather than £10

i figure as long as the spring is the poundage it says it is, a spring is just a spring. i picked up a set of faulkners springs from needforspeed.co.uk

It's not quite so important on coil over springs, But again Eibach are always good quality, Intresting comment about the Billies, thinner inserts was a bit worrying after I was shown some bent ones off another road rally car, Have you ever seen the shaft in the bottom of the strut, These are thin as per any damper and do bend!!
