My First Problem....

Recommended Posts

PugAddict

Hey guys

I picked up my white '88 205 1.6 GTi a couple of weeks ago  . It had been rescued from a farm where it had just been sitting for a year!! :o

The problem is this.....after a few minutes of driving, the Pug struggles over 2k revs. This happens irrespective of gear or speed (i.e happens at 2kish whilst in 2nd gear doing 30mph, and the same prob at 2kish doing 40mph in 5th). If I shift down it just splutters, chokes, and kangaroos all over the place!

What on earth can I do to sort this out?

Cheers

D

ignition module or ECU temp sender.

I have both of the above parts for sale if needed but I'd start by looking at the ignition system to be honest, which incidently, I also have for sale!

and the ecu temp sender is on the thermostat housing. It has a blue 2 pin plug on it IIRC

Many thanks for the help guys  I'll check all this out.

Drove the car last night when it was a bit cooler outside and it seemed to run better. Was still jumping around like a kangaroo on speed, but i deffo think that the temperature in the engine bay has some affect on the performance. It seems to run ok for a minute or two, but then stutters and jumps. Would this be consistent with the parts you've mentioned?

Again cheers for your help guys......legends ^_^

Also, I forgot to mention.........the idle is all over the shop, not the usual rough idling but anywhere between 500-2k revs!!

Again could this be explained and fixed by the parts mentioned above?

Car electronics is not my gig  as if you couldn't tell lolol :)

Gregg

Had a look at this on Wednesday for Pugfather, found a small water leak from the broken bleed screw by the thermostat housing that was pissing all over the neighbouring spark plug, signified by plenty of crusty white deposits and a warm, wet hand when I went near it :D A quick bodge has closed it up for now and seems to have cured the missing/spluttering :)
