shine 0 Posted July 1, 2006 Hello What kind of oil do you recomend for Be1 box with Quaife LSD? Can I use same type of oil as with std diff? I used to run with Castrol SAF-X0 Thanks Espen
Ryan 99 Posted July 1, 2006 I'm pretty sure Quaife say just to use whatever you'd normally put in.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted July 1, 2006 I'm using the Morris semi synthetic stuff from GSF, standard gearoil & nothing fancy. Graham.
d-9 0 Posted July 2, 2006 Be sure to fit the diff correctly, setting the preload on the bearings with the correct size shim, this is not mentioned in the guide on the main page.
Guest Steen-S 309 GTI 16 Posted July 2, 2006 Please explain the correct settings.
B1ack_Mi16 67 Posted July 2, 2006 Be sure to fit the diff correctly, setting the preload on the bearings with the correct size shim, this is not mentioned in the guide on the main page. AFAIK there is no shim on the newer BE boxes, only the very very early ones has one (I've never seen one). Only place I found a shim in my BE box was on the input-shaft, and that won't be any different when changing the diff. The casings are at least supposed to be correct machined from factory and shouldn't need a shim. (At least as long you haven't taken the part with the speedo-drive and changed it to one fraom another box, then I guess tehre could be some problems..) TEKNOPUG 3 Posted July 2, 2006 I use this http://www.redlineoil.com/products_gearlub...=60&subcatID=

That was just my thought, I have never seen any shims when I fitted the Quiafe diff.
jackherer 543 Posted July 2, 2006 (At least as long you haven't taken the part with the speedo-drive and changed it to one fraom another box, then I guess tehre could be some problems..) like what? I've done that before and it seems fine
B1ack_Mi16 67 Posted July 2, 2006 like what? I've done that before and it seems fine ¨ Like that the bearings is likely to get either too much or too less preload due to the casing lip that enters the diff housing is too short or long. But maybe they're even produced with such small tolerances that it ain't a problem anyway.
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted July 2, 2006 I;ve only seen a couple of boxes with the diff shims and they had the even earlier Metal selectors inside, era of around 1984!! But B1ack's spot on the cases are machined to suit, Yes you can change them normally without any problems as they do wear as well
SPGTi 2 Posted July 3, 2006 I always use Total BV oil as recommended by Peugeot and available very cheaply from GSF. The Pug recommended oil is a bit thinner than std and is easier on the synchros (so I was told by a gearbox specialist). steve
midnight motorsport 0 Posted July 7, 2006 i normally run gl5 fully synthetic, quaiff recomend gl4 or gl5, silkolene is what i normally run in my gearboxes, never had any problems
