feb 47 Posted July 1, 2006 I tried searching for something similar but no luck. I can feel a very slight vibration on the steering wheel and with the lower part of my body below my waist while driving from 20mph +. As speed increases the engine noise and vibration almost cover this completely so you have to really be very alert to sense it as it slight. switching off the engine helps! any ideas where it may be coming from? i did a track day 2 weeks ago and the sidewalls of the front tyres became quite worn so i took the car for a wheel balance but they balanced the wheels only on the inside; could that be the problem? i cant remember if the problem appeared after the balancing or not i remember during the previous balance the weights were on the inside of the rim but on both inner and outer side; a pic would probably show better what im trying to say but have no camera Thanks,
saveloy 8 Posted July 2, 2006 Hi Fivos, I hope you're well. It could be the beginning of a driveshaft problem. It would be wise to check the anti - roll bar bolts and the subframe bolts. These can work loose, especially after some track time.
feb 47 Posted July 12, 2006 (edited) Hi Kyri and thanks for your pm dude. I have had the car checked on a ramp and wishbones, ARB and subframe all seem firm. If i exaggerate it feels as if my wheels have become square if you know what i mean. It is a periodic kind of knocking and i can feel it on the floorpan now!! Any suggestions as i am getting fed up with it now! I need to travel with the car but dont trust it like this. Thanks for your help guys, Edited July 12, 2006 by feb
feb 47 Posted July 23, 2006 (edited) OK , I have been reading this post http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=62225 and sounds similar to mine apart from mine does it even with the wheels straight! went round a roundabout fast and it does sound like driveshaft knocking but would a driveshaft problem knock very slightly with the wheels straight too? i took it to a pug dealer who checked everything and told me it's nice and tight. from your experience if it was the driveshafts would they last another 1000km? the knocking is not too bad, my previous AX was knocking like hell but only on turning the wheel. i need to drive a long journey next week and am a bit worried of a driveshaft snapping ... i forgot to add, the frequency of knocking is slow at slow speeds which would indicate it must be a rotating part... any ideas?
