smighall 1 Posted June 30, 2006 Hi people, I'm thinking about doing a gti6 conversion into my track car, i've read through all the posts that i can find regarding this but still have a few questions. 1. Does the bottom engine mount need extending or the bulkhead bashing in to fit the exhaust manifold? 2. What downpipe do you use, 306 or 205? I guess it needs to have a slot for a lambda anyway? 3. 205 1.6 gearbox ok to use? 4. Where can i take the ECU to get it unlocked? 5. In terms of wiring, i assume there aren't too many wires to match up if it runs standard gti6 management, anybody got any wiring diagrams for the conversion? 6. Normal 205 rad ok to use, and no clearance issues with the inlet manifold? If i go for this i hope to get it up and running in a couple of weeks as i have no work for a while. Any help appreciated Sean
Jonmurgie 2 Posted June 30, 2006 1. Do neither, use a manifold angle plate from QEP to keep the engine the right angle 2. Not 100% sure on this one though if you need the Lamba then I guess the 306 one 3. Yes, if that's what you have 4. Not sure 5. Not Sure 6. Yes, 205 rad is fine and if you do No. 1 then you won't have mucc clearance issues if you alter the fan cowling a little.

maxi 36 1 Cars Posted June 30, 2006 (edited) Done a couple of these now. I will have another one done in the next week or two for someone, im only in Burgess Hill so pop down and take a look. Always best to talk someone whos done it, not listen to the bollox you read on here. Maxi NOTE: QEP dont do an angling plate for a GTi6. Matt is about to start doing them though, small mod or two and it will fit. Edited June 30, 2006 by maxi
16v205 9 Posted June 30, 2006 How do you get on with the hose from the thermostat to the radiator? My plastic thermostat outlet was smashed by the guy removing the engine, dont know if it fits with a gti6 hose and should source another one or if it doesnt fit and im wasting my time? Maxi thats the best advice you are going to get, don't listen to people who think they know what they are talking about. Maxi and doughboy for example are 2 who have done them on here
jonnie205 1 Posted July 1, 2006 Ok standard gti6 exhaust manifold used. rad needs tilting as per mi16. bottom mount can stay standard length. no need to unlock ecu if you break a car as there is a sequence you can do and the actual car will permanaently unlock ecu. The thermostat housing on the gti6 is the same as any 406. Best to use 406 top hose as it fits better and is a niceer angle than the 306 one. If you wanna run pas then go for a Rallye aux setup or if no pas then find a 406 engine bracket to hold alternator or just modify a 306 bracket and use mi16 belt. May need to trim cam cover as it runs very close to mc, some cars seem better than others though. If a track car i would remove the cover all together for ease of inspection and also if some thing is wrong its easy to sort (ie belt slipped, leak etc)
