Assume you've had a professional alignment done?

I had particuarly shafted balljoints but never found then "that" much of an issue in terms of wandering (however upon putting on new ones it definetly felt much tighter and sharper in the corners), wheel alignment is a must though as you are unlikely to have it all straight and tidy and so will also be scrubbing rubber. If the joints are that bad replace them though, feels much much better :D

check the bottom column u/j as well

recently traced a problem with mine to this joint - took it off and it was fine in one direction, but so stiff in the other that i could barely move it by hand!

end result was that the steering was very inconsistent

worth checking out - all you need to do is disconnect the lower column from the rack and see what it feels like
