16 Valve Head Onto Turbo Block

Recommended Posts

Guest leegt

i've seen a few people on here are doing it but is the mi16 head got to much overlap for a turbo engine or is it proven that they work well and give good power gains? would it be better to put on a normal 2 ltr 16valve head off a 406 with milder duration cams but obviously just flow more air? cheers lee

Thought the standard Mi16 head, cams and cam pulleys had next to bugger all lift on overlap due to the plenum intake system originally used.

Stand to be corrected though!

I agree. The standard cams with #2 pulleys on each would be excellent as they have very wide separation angles, giving minimal overlap at TDC.

Thats what I'm using, standard cams with #2 pulleys, the head is back off at the minute getting the valves sorted tho!

Do you actually mean to make the mi16 into an mi16 turbo? (Which is everyone replying is presuming when talking about miniumal overlap) Or are you just talking about using the turbos block but having a normally aspirated engine?

Mi16 head for the win! :P

They were developed from the 205 T16 engine after all.

If you can sort out the overlap issue, then theres no doubt, it'd be one of the best heads you could use.

I think Rob Turbo is doing a similar engine build.

Don't think there is an overlap issue :(

Would the valves have problems with the turbo pistons though? :P

AFAIK, no, I've tested this twice now, and theres the same clearence, if not more than the s16 engine has
