Wheel Alignment With Upgraded Suspension

Recommended Posts

Bonzai

ok so ive not long had my pug back on the roads after changing the suspension to gaz adjustables and lowered ~30mm front ~45mm back approx. Obviously its a good idea to have 4 wheel tracking done but will the geometry settings be different with the changed suspension?

apologies if this sounds wrong or stupid. a guy at work has been trying to explain to me and i dont have much of a clue what he was leading too.

No, they will be the same so it's just to make sure that replacing the suspension hasn't put something out of place ;)

lowering the car will generate more toe in as the steering arm is behind the hub. check wheel alignment - they tend to handle better for the road with 1mm-0mm toe in.

most times you will have too much negative camber on the front when it's been lowered on cars with just one suspension arm because the normal camber angle has to be created with less length so the angle has to be sharper, but most times nothing can be done about this. Wheel alignment is a very good idea after changing any part to do with suspension. Dont know if other people have noticed but on lowered cars, the bottom arm always looks to be sitting at an awkward angle, if its been lowered a lot, the bottom joint in some cases is above the inner mountings of the arm, i just think it looks very awkward because the movement of the arm is totally different like this to what it was intended to be by the manufacturers, maybe im just fussy?!?

Nothing is adjustable on 205s so you can only change the tracking, nothing else should have moved really anyway.

Owain you are fussy yes, but you're right. Most cars though won't be lowered past the point of full travel on standard suspension so it will be OK as long as the setup is good.

Is it a good idea to slack off the wishbone bush retaining bolts at the new ride height will put more preload on the bushes?? (or am I being pedantic?)

Thats a good idea imo, maybe slightly pedantic but I even wait until the car is back on its wheels before tightening the rear shock absorber mounting bolts to avoid inducing any twist in the bushes.
