Anyone Know Much About Heaters/aricon On 406's?

on the off chance....

on my 1998 406 DT (1.9 XU turbo diesel) there is a funny noise coming from what appears to be the heater blower. it's like a ticking noise like an actuator is trying to move something but it won't go. the fan works fine but the aircon doesn't work any more. if i press the air recirculation button, the noise stops but the aircon still doesn't work.

any ideas?

it's a lot more complicated than a 205!!!! :)

also does anyone know of a good forum for these large fat things?

i'm playing with it (couldn't resist) so i'm sure i'll need some assistance! so far i'm running on tweaked veg oil and soon will be increasing the boost as it seems to be fairly easy to get 120 - 130 bhp from these engines when in the 306 but the 406 has the bonus of a HUGE front mounted intercooler!

sounds like your positioning flap motor is sticking, normal cure is replacement not cheap, would take your car for a leak test or regas if aircon isnt working (assuming air con compressor is switching on of course)

is the aircon compressor and the rad fan switching on? as above sounds like a solenoid may be sticking, although i didnt think they were that expensive?

right, i've had a play this weekend. the ticking noise was the recirculation flap actuator. i have now removed this and wedged it into the inlet (not recirculation) position. that's fine for now until i get a new actuator...

i bought an aircon topup hose/gauge/kit thingy and the pressure is fine so it's lost nothing.

the aircon switch clicks in and the light comes on but the compressor doesn't seem to do anything. i assume the centre of the pulley should 'lok in' with the outside when turned on?

all relevant (from the very limited info in the haynes manual) fuses are good.

any ideas?

A good forum is French Car Forum

A very helpful lot although the emphasis is very much on Citroens. They have a forum devoted to A/C problems.

Like this forum it is a technical one and very well moderated. It grew out of the old Andyspares Forum.
