Sensor Wiring

could anyone let me know where the wires for the water sensors at the back of engine connect into the brown multi plug at the front of the engine. i had a new engine put in and the cowboy mechanic has not wired it up right. at the moment i have only 1 wire coming out of the multi plug to the starter. also missing is the plug to the sad, i have no idea where it is and where it leads back to, ie, the brown multiplug or straight into the loom. any advice would be helpfull

Send me your email address and i'll send you some info on what wires are attached to the brown plug, all i've got on the subject. Nothing in the Haynes Manual or havn't you got one?

Let me know what year and model of GTi you have as every type will have different wiring loom.

Mine is out of the car at the moment so will take a photo and post soon as I can, but if your car is NOT a 1993 1.9L running motronic 1.3 then it may well be different.

9 Pin Brown connector

 

1. Reverse light (wire 52, brown)

2. Reverse light (wire 53, purple)

3. Coolant light (wire 47, yellow)

4. Coolant meter (wire 47a, red)

5. Alternator (wire 7a, brown thin wire)

6. Oil pressure meter (wire 30, lilac)

7. Oil temp meter (wire 30a, white)

8. Oil pressure light (wire 30b, grey)

9. Switched positive (wire 2, light blue)

 

6 Pin Brown connector

 

1. Coolant fluid level (wire 47b)

2. Fuel pump (wire 76)

3. Coolant fluid level (wire M47B)

4. RPM meter (wire 112)

5. K-Light (wire 74)

6. Starter motor (wire 46)

 

Those are the plugs under-dash and i have seen the wire numbers also around on here

for the brown plug over the gearbox area.

Ok this is picture of my brown plug that sits on top of the gearbox and the wire connected to it are:

From the left:

pin1=Brown=7A

pin2=White=not readable

pin3=White=30A

pin4=Grey=50A (I think)

pin5=Blue=46

pin6=Yellow=47

pin7=Red=47A

 

 

 

And this is the loom after the brown plug:

 

 

 

All the wires for the Brown plug come from the two other Brown plugs allready mention and found inside the car. The SAD in not part of the brown wire loom. Also colour of wires maybe different for your car.

If you need more details of the connectors for the 2nd pic I can do that tomorrow.

thanks a lot for that i take it the part of the loom on the door is the connections for the sensors and the starter if thats the case i dont have this part attached to the brown multiplug all that i have coming out of the box is the wire going to the starter. i think if thats the case i'll need to run single wires back to the box, does that sound right

thanks for all the advice i got all the sensors connected today but have got a couple more questions to pester you with. ive put the 2 pin black plug on the sad and i found a blue 2 pin plug attached to the sensor on top of the gearbox so ive removed that and put it onto the blue sensor just to the side of the sad which i think is the coolant temp sensor. i;m now left with no plug for the top of the gearbox which is a white socket. have i wired up the sad and cool temp sensor correct. if so where would th plug for the top of gearbox come from and what colour would it be. sorry for being pain in ass but pulling hair out now

Well done

The 2 pin gearbox connector (front side of gearbox) I think is the reverse switch, mine has a white connector to it and Pin1 & pin2 (wires 52 & 53 according to sonofsam) of the large 9 pin brown plug go to that directly.

The black 2 pin connector sounds like the SAD one.

The blue connector is right to the blue sensor.

I think the two other wire are for the two sensor behind the intake manifold in the block. Oil pressure & temp I think.

[cheers i'll check out the gearbox plug tomorrow. i thought that those 2 wires were for the oil sensors and had themon there but when iwas rewiring today i found out that these wires come straight from the loom and the sensor wires for the oil come out of the brown multiplug so i've connected it up that way and the gauges are working now but i'm left with these 2 wires. also the reverse plug will that connect into a 2 pin adapter plug that is sitting just next to the expansion tank on the pass side of the car just curious as this socket has nothing connected to it

Can you confirm that all the wires sonofsam posted in this thread are now connected as he says? all 15 of them.

ive connected all but the alternator wire on the 7 wire brown multi plug at the front of engine. the only problem i have now is the sensor on top of gearbox and to find out where it comes from i dont have the wire or plug but can get one hopefully. also the engine was starting with all the wires mixed up but cause of overfueling chucked it after 30 secs. now with all wires in correct place except the mention gearbox sensor its not starting. will this be because the ecu has being trying to work to the previous settings and will it re calculate with new connections

As I mentioned earlier all 7 wires to the 7pin brown connector found near the gearbox come from the 2 brown connectors (sonofsam listed each wire colour and number on the first page of this thread) found under the dash which totals 15 wires. there are 8 wires you need to acount for from the 2 brown connectors inside the car. 2 of these are for the reverse switch note my earlier post.

Therefore you know 9 of the 15. find the the other 6 and follow sonofsam's list to work out what goes where and what is missing.

I believe pin9 (largest brown connector) goes to the SAD unit and the return is part of the module loom so should not be part of the 15 wires you need.

not had much time to mess with wiring but getting back into it tomorrow. i done a voltage test on the plug to the afm and not getting any reading from it i,ll need to look into this but think that might be my overfueling problem

RESULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

engine running perfect i reconnected all the wires that tw*t mechanice left out and running good

got water coming running into the footwell of the car from centre consol any suggestions and is this a common problem. also need to change exhaust manifold gaskets as the above mentioned cowboy used some blue paste as a seal as he never replaced the proper gaskets.

cheers for all your help from this forum i was ready to break the car and sell it but glad i logged on here and got all the info i needed
