S16 Compression Test Figures?

Recommended Posts

Richie-Van-GTi

Been doing a repair on a s16 today, it had a dodgy coil pack but sorted now, anyway when we got it running we noticed a bit of smoke from the back, not loads but a bit and it was white. Also the water level has dropped considerably, half the radiator depth in about 10 minutes of idling. We pressure tested this car a couple of months ago and it only gave out about 145's - 150's across the board but as they were all similar we thought it must be right. Anyone know if thats low? We suspect a bit of a leak somewhere as the coolant looks slightly oiley but oil looks clean.

that is a low reading but as the fiqures were the same could of be a dodgy compression gauge.

a good engine should have about 200psi.

do another compression test to see what it shows.

gauge is fine, it gives me 185's on a cold gti lump. I'll re do the s16 see what comes of it.
