Coolant Fan Sensor

Recommended Posts

Noticed my temp gauge playing up on the way into work this morning, one minute it wasn't working the next it was. I need the car later and I'm not going to have time to take a look - it doesn't run hot so it shouldn't be a problem, but what I wanted to know was...

Does the cooling fan have it's own sender or does it run off the same one as the dash gauge? Do I have to worry about the fan not coming on when it should?

The cooling fan works off a sensor in the radiator so wont be affected by the temp guage reading.

Spot on, cheers ;)

I can see it taking me a while to get round to sorting out the gauge :)

EDIT: Hang on, I've just realised I'm being really, really thick... I knew the answer to this question, I've changed the fan sensor in a 205 several times! Must be Friday :)

If you can get the wire off the gauge sender unit and earth it, the gauge should read max if working ok. By doing this you can tell if the gauge is damaged or you just need a new sensor.

Cheers
