Best Solution For Getting At The Bottom Water Pipe

Recommended Posts

NOsMAN

I've done a couple of radiators before on my 205's but the cabriolet one is an absolute nightmare to get at cos of the Aircon unit(blocking me from getting at it from underneath). On top there is no room either due to all the extra pipes from the aircon unit. I have even tried stripping the front end down and i still cant get at it..

Any ideas??(do not want to remove the aircon unit)

Not familiar with aircon placement but could you undo the pipe from the block at rear of engine-remove metal pipe from inner wing, top hose and overflow then remove rad complete with bottom hose?

If you undo the compressor from the sump there should be enough slack in the rubber pipes for you to move it enough to get at the hose.

Not too sure what the problem is here? The 'extra pipes from the aircon unit' are nowhere near the lower rad hose as they come from the passenger side of the compressor and run up the drivers side of the radiator, although the AC compressor gets in the way a little. If you take off the slam panel and lift the rad' up you should be able to reach the hose okay. that's how I achieved replacing the rad'.

I've removed the slam panel already .Its the compressor at the bottom plus the great big autobox is blocking all passages to the hose from underneath. There is also another radiator(Is this part of the aircon or oil cooler?) in front of it. Tried lifting the radiator but it wont come up anymore than 2 inches due to the connected hose. If it was a normal 205Gti would have done it easily.Basically there is no access whatsoever from underneath unless i remove the compressor which i dont fancy doing(incase all the gas escapes)

Ahh, now I see. Yes, the extra'Rad' infront of the other one is the Condensor for the AC system, and those Auto boxes are huge, aren't they? Is it access to undo the jubilee clip that is the problem? I have a nut spinner on a flexible shaft that I use to get into the tight space, then you can lift the rad and the bottom hose should come off, then I put a little bit of washing up liquid in the hose to help it slide into place when lower the new rad in.
