Xu10 8v Engine Swap

Recommended Posts

number2301

I've done a search but everything seems to be about XU10 turbos, 16v XU10s or XU10 heads on 1.9 blocks!

I've been advised to go for an XU10 in my 1.9 GTI instead of replacing it with a lower mileage engine (plus the XU10 is guarunteed to work by the guy who's fitting it which is always handy!). What do you guys reckon? Its gonna be around the same cost and is just a put me on for a year or 2 until I can go 16v.

And if it sounds a good idea does anyone want to buy a 1.9 8v engine and box ;)

I put one in my 1.9 about 3 weeks ago. Still feels just as quick but mine has a kent pt46 cam in it. Put the end cap off the gti head on the new head along with the gti cam then you can fit the dizzy, stick the gti plenum on with fuel rail etc but use the 2.0 injectors. Saves hassle with wiring etc and its all bolt on stuff, exhaust is direct fitment as well. Only thing you may want to do if you do like me is reshape the inlet ports on the 2.0 head to same as the gti plenum but TBH it will run alright without reshaping. Top end feels a bit more torquey on mine now as well ;)

also the oil returns are tricky as the block only has one pipe at the bottom where the gti has 2, I ran the cam cover hose down to the T oin the oil filler neck and then capped off the spare pipe on the gti oil filler. Unless you keep the big daft bulky cover on the 2.0 lump as the oil filler is in there. If you do go for the gti cam cover you need to swap the nuts on the cam caps as the 2.0 nuts are weird and too big for the gti cam cover, but its only a 5 minute job to swap them all over, its just the nuts that are too long, the real bolts are underneath :D

i put an engine in my 205 a while back, 2litre xu10 8v, unfortunatly it had a blown H/G at the time so i never got round to fitting the gti cam ect, but i got it running on the existing management but swapping the cam caps as mentions and a few other bits n bobs, but think its defo a conversion worth considering due to the newer engine and same money due to relatively simple fitting.

and if the fitter warrentys the engine it can only be a good thing ;)

The mounts bolt to the same place on the shell, but the upper mount itself is different (similar to the S16 mount)
