Poor Running, Misfiring

Recommended Posts

jayblack-gti

For a while now ive been having this annoyin misfiring problem and alot of hesitation and some power loss at the top end of rpm range. just recently from cold startin the engine will idle smoothly and then start hunting and wanting to cut out, if i apply any throttle it just almost stalls and the engine management light come on. After a few mins it runs fine though. Ive checked the dizzy cap and rotor arm, leads, cleaned them up and all seems fine, plugs have a nice bisciuty colour to them so seem ok to. Only other thing to check or replace is the coil, ignition amp. Could 1 of these be the cause or as its a CAT version with the motronic management could it be knackered crank sensor or lambda sensor

cheers jay

Would think it's ignition based, spark leads etc, can you get known good replacement parts to try?

Check out the AFM as well (possibilly retrack it as to the article on the main web site) and it's connection.

gonna get hold of another coil and ignition amp so hope that sorts it, after reading through paceys very long post i hope it one of these. got another set of new leads kickin about that i could throw on cos bought 2 sets as king lead was to short and never took the unused leads back, i only replaced the one's on the car 6 months ago, worth a try. air flow meter was replaced couple of year ago for new unit so think it should be ok, plus dont get no irratic idle and it runs on motronic

So did you get yours sorted? I've got a similar problem with a similar car - Motronic but with Cat.

Any idea's whether I should buy new or ebay the coil and ignition amp?
