Baz 421 Posted June 19, 2006 I know that the 309 beams are wider than a 205, but can a 205 beam be fitted to a 309?? It seems increasingly hard to find good 309 beams, reason i ask is as i'm thinking of buying a 309 that has a screwed beam, and i have a good 1.9 beam spare! Will it clear the inner arches? and is there any other problems? Cheers!!
sonofsam 5 Posted June 19, 2006 I did this once, put a fooked 1.6 beam on a 309, IIRC the mounting points did'nt line up at all, may have done with a lever or too and the 1.6 alloys were mighty close to the innner arches. search: 205 beam on a 309, some pics may come up, hope your not to distressed about what happened to the 309 afterwards, im sure you have an inckling anyway. pug309twin40s 1 Posted June 19, 2006 (edited) a 205 will fit onto a 309 just but there will be very little clearance out the inner arches and will be only able to fit steelies or maybe 1.6 wheels. and the 309 will sit very low if the 205 beam wasnt raised up. jackherer 543 Posted June 19, 2006 I IIRC the mounting points did'nt line up at all, you need to turn the rear mounts through 180 degrees to get it to fit, exactly the opposite of the procedure to fit a 309 beam to a 205 unsurprisingly
brianthemagical 1 Posted June 19, 2006 you could use spacers to clear the inner arches.
Anthony 1,003 Posted June 19, 2006 If you've got a knackered 309 beam then it can be rebuilt - its the arms and torsion/anti-roll bars that are important remember as the tube and shafts can be easily sourced - and that's got to be an infinately preferable solution to fitting a beam that's too narrow and has softer torsion and anti-roll bars.... scotthall39 0 Posted June 20, 2006 Yes they will fit just not really advisable as a permanant thing.
inferno 1 Posted June 20, 2006 haha really is a stupid question!
Baz 421 Posted June 20, 2006 (edited) Why's that then Tom? Care to expand on that comment? You mean just as stupid as you owning a decent car as you'll just get annoyed at not being able to fix it after you break it then smash it up? I would suspect your answer to be just as stupid and as pointless as that post. Thanks for everyone elses's answers. The car in question will have no beam as i may be getting it jointly with another friend who wants the beam. Edited June 20, 2006 by BazGTMi
