Bottom Arms

Recommended Posts

Ive fitted new bottom arms just under a month ago and never tightened them with weight on how long can i weight before getting them tightened under weight? i am worried they may split as people have said on here and i cant afford another £100. I am going to try and visit a garage on tuesday, they shouldnt have split by now should they? as although ive changed almost all me front end the car is still rattly and noisey, i put this down to gas shocks and it being lowered 40mm, i spose i could always check for play when i get them re-tightened as i cant do it as i cant get under me car enough to do them myself. The car drives great now except for cheap tyres and it needs tracking to have it driveing 100% but just making sure.

erm - i'd tighten them right away!

the knocking you've been getting might be something to do with them being loose - hopefully the bushes will still be ok

they should be tightened after lowering the car to the ground after you've fitted them - before you use the car

hope it's OK

Probably because you havent tightened them mate. My car is lowered aswell and there was no way i could get underneath it so i just borrowed some ramps, worked a treat.

Dont bother doing the tracking until you have tightened the wishbones up.

I bought a new wishbone and the tracking is a mile out compared to the old one.

You don't need to crawl underneath the car to tighten them up. Jack the car up on the sill or subframe, whip the wheel off, then put an axle stand under the bottom ball joint and lower the car onto it(keep the jack in place just incase anything moves). The full weight of the car is now on the lower arm so the bolts can be tightened up.

Just tighten them up now. Doesn't matter if the car is jacked up or not.

I just do stuff liek that up as tight as I can and have no problems ;) Don't bother with Torque on stuff like that!

Those torque settings in Haynes also had me wondering. They do seem a bit low. The bolts seemed a lot tighter when I removed them but I put that down to the threadlock. I did all my nuts and bolts up to the specified torque settings and used threadlock. Seemed OK on the test drive. Will this be OK do you think (anyone)?
