Front Wheel Bearing

Recommended Posts

Guest edcotic

got a bit of play in the nearside front hub on my 1.6 gti

just done the track rod end, and the wishbone bushes are tight - i'm assuming it's wheel bearing, do i need any particular tools?

thanks

Is the play up and down movement or side to side?? To repalce it youll need access to a hydraulic press ideally to press the old one out. Also some good pullers to grip the old part of the bearing left on the hub that needs to be removed after its pressed out.

Where is the movement exactly?

Its possible that you need a new hub if the balljoint hole has become oval which is quite common.

no specific tools just a large hammer and some big sockets ( the size of the inner and outer bearing races)

oh yeah and as sonof sam said get good c pliers as the c clips are fairly meaty.
