How To Remove Indicator Stalk

I have removed the lower steering surround and the 2 screws that hold the indicator/lights stalk to the steering column but the stalk won't go through the gap between the top plastic steering surround and steering column.

How do you remove the top steering surround/instrument cluster or is there an easier way to replace the indicator stalk?

You will have to remove the top cowling as well, which is all one piece from the heater controls up and over the clocks...

 

To do this pull off the heater controls and you will see a couple of screws under there, remove them. Then pull out the coin tray and there are a couplf oc screws there, remove those. I think there are a couple of screws along the leading edge of the trim underneath, so check for those... you should then be able to pull the whole trim forward and off, there is a clip on the right hand side of the clocks so be away of that.

....Or remove lower r/h panel:- 10mm bolt on footwell cover, 1 under choke blank and 2 on l/h/s of lower cowling. Then remove four nuts that secure column and lower it enough to remove stalk. Not really easier but I find that the top cowlings always rattle after removal!

Lower the steering column by un-doing the nuts that hold it up, easier than removing the upper column shroud anyway.

 

IIRC they don't need removing completely to get the stalk out.

Had to do this the other day to fix a dash lighting/rev counter problem... 205 dashboards make me laugh, such cheap nastyness! :P

As Graham said lowering the steering column takes a few seconds and is much easier than dismantling most of the dash, which risks being broken when being refitted due to the brittle plastic
