TEKNOPUG 3 Posted June 16, 2006 What's the largest theoretical capacity that can be achieved with an 8v XU engine? Assuming that one uses a 2.0l iron block, custom pistons and most suitable head.

I know you can get 100mm cranks.. Combined with a 88mm bore that'll give you 2433cc. But I've heard the 100mm crank may be a little bit too long stroked and have reability problems due to sidewall forces on the cylinder. 96mm stroke will be fine at least.. That'll give 2335cc with 88mm bore. Apparently not all XU10 blocks can handle the 88mm bore, god knows what's the difference between those blocks, I'm not getting any smarter at least. I now have XU10J4R block (2.3 engine), one XU10J4TE (T16) and XU11D (2.1TD) and all seem to have thick enough walls to support 88mm bore. Maybe the 8v XU10's can't handle that much bore, I really don't know what the difference is.
TEKNOPUG 3 Posted June 17, 2006 Thanks for your quick response. Is that a custom crank (100mm) or from another Pug engine? I've seen a 2.4l Mi16 (Danish guy on the home page). And I assume that's using customs pistons also? I really just fancy something a little different and there's no real substitue for cubes! I know you can get 100mm cranks.. Oh yeah, it'll be blown also, so sidewall forces may be crucial

If I was you I would just go with a 92mm XU11D crank, it's forged and therefor should be stronger than the standard cast cranks. And 87mm bore pistons.. 2187cc.. And should be safe with big boost
