Kyb Shock Absorbers

Recommended Posts

A local dealer suggest me to replace my normal (damaged) shocks in my 205 GTi 1.9 with the KYB (kayaba) ones.

Any feedback about these please?

Pretty s*ite, about same as standard... I had a pair on the back and it was horrible! Worth going for the Bilstein Streetline at least :)

I had KYB Ultra SR all round with SBC springs and they were pretty damn good. The worked better the harder the were pushed.

To say they're sh*te is a bit unfair. :)

Well the ones I had were so I think it is fair for me, with actual experience, to say they are... granted I don't kow which range they were and if anything this thread has highlighted to the OP that they need to look carefully at which KYB shocks he may purchse ^_^

and I bought these from Paul and put them on my mates 205, they are definitely better than standard shocks...

What colour were the ones you had Jon? the ones described above are painted gold.

Orange... I'm sure they must have just been the most basic of shocks though, KYB are a very common Japanese standard fit the same way that Bilstein is for european cars ^_^

exactly, and theres something I forgot to say before in response to:

bilstein streetline can fairly be described as 'Pretty s*ite' but it should also be noted that they are actually WORSE than standard shocks!

I thought the general consensus of the forum was the Streetlines are like the standard shocks?! Got to admit, now I've been coilover for 2 years I don't really keep up with regular shock setups that much

sprintlines are good, streetlines are rubbish...

(edit: its the rear streetlines that are worse than standard, the fronts are acceptable)

I've got KYB AGX's on the front of my 205, together with Eibach springs. They seem to do OK. But I'm not particularly inspired by them. I suppose they are a budget adjustable damper at the end of the day, and for the money they're good value. I had Streetline fronts on before that, with the same springs. They WERE crap. Maybe with standard springs they're acceptable, but certainly with my setup, the compression damping felt too hard and rebound too soft...i.e. crashy and uncontrolled.

As he told me the KYB set includes the black type in the front and the silver type for the rear shocks.

Istead of these normal one's what do you think abou the Bilstein Group N Shocks?

Are they stiff enough to brake down a 205?

Please note that in Athens we don't have good enough roads..

The next step will be the adjustable Red Type Koni..

I will finally go for the Koni Sports (with the external stiffness adjustment) and I will keep the Vogtland Springs

Thanks for your help guys!
