nanouk 1 Posted June 15, 2006 Hi everybody, I have some huge problems with my rear beam, it cant be saved Im afraid. On the right side the tube have been eaten by the shaft, and the shaft looks terrible, there is nothing left of the bearings, it all is in a terrible shape. I found the ssp engineering address (here on this forum) and now I would like to hear some comments from other people, is the stuff they are selling any good? Somebody told me that one have to put nipples on the tube and lubricate it often, any comments abouth that? My car is the 205 Gti 1.9 1989 model, and I love it

Miles 331 1 Cars Posted June 15, 2006 What parts are you after? As sending a beam to Findland would be allot of money, SSP just like me, would buy all my parts from Peugeot as all are still stocked thank's to the 306 using most of the same parts
nanouk 1 Posted June 16, 2006 (edited) I will need the tube and the trailing arms/shafts, I already have the bearings and the seals. I asked the Peugeot dealer and he told me one trailing arm only would cost something like 700 euros, and estimated the total cost for my parts to over 2000 euros. That would be 1500 in sterling I think. I know Craddock (Landroverparts) for example have done good deals with shipping companys and are shipping around EU for reasonable prices. I tryed to call the SSP - engineering yesterday but did´nt get thru, makes me nervous, is there other companys building theese beams? My beam / tube is in a really sad condition, the other side so rusted that almost no material left in upper-side of tube and nothing left of the bearings, and I mean absolutly nothing! Pug_101 0 Posted June 16, 2006 Can you not find something 2nd hand or in a scrap yard? Or even a cheap 205 2nd hand with a good beam.
B1ack_Mi16 67 Posted June 16, 2006 Can you not find something 2nd hand or in a scrap yard?Or even a cheap 205 2nd hand with a good beam. Try gettign a price on the trailing arm shaft and not the complete trailingarm. The partnumber for the shaft itself is 517617. The beam tube I think would be easiest just to get from a base model 205 in a scrappy. I just did the same to a 309 beam for my 205.. Got a scrapped 309 GTi beam and had to get a base-model beam too to be able to get it togeather. And one new shaft + bearings and stuff. The shaft should be possible to get for about 125 euros each I think.
nanouk 1 Posted June 16, 2006 I have tryed to find an used item, not easy, people are keeping the Gti s i codition, and the others is not here anymore in large numbers, I also think that the used thing may be in the same horrible state as my own. I din´t know you could have the shaft separatly, dont think they offer it here in finland, how hard is it to separeat the shaft from the arm? I must have this properly done as I wont to save this car, its ehlswhere in good original condition, with a new engine put in a month ago and lots of new parts. What is the part no. for the tube? pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted June 16, 2006 how hard is it to separeat the shaft from the arm? You need use of a hydraulic press, usually needs about 2 tonnes to get it moving initially iirc. You can use the centre tube from any 205 on a GTi, the only difference is the outside diameter of the base model 205's is smaller but most people remove the tank safety strap anyway so it doesn't matter. Centre tube part numbers; 5148 44 01 SUSP CROSSMEMBR - EXCEPT GTI SINCE S 5129460 UP TO S 5904143 5148 42 01 - GTI SINCE S 5129460 UP TO S 5895923 5148 47 01 - EXCEPT GTI EXCEPT CT EXCEPT CTI EXCEPT RALLYE EXCEPT BVA EXCEPT TU24 SINCE S 5904144 5148 48 01 - GTI SINCE S 5895924 - RALLYE SINCE S 5129460 - CTI SINCE S 5129460 - CT SINCE S 5129460 - BVA SINCE S 5129460 - CJ Graham. nanouk 1 Posted June 18, 2006 Thank you for the numbers, I was on the country-side for the weekend. Must check things up next week, the best thing would still be to have a redy to fit beam, have not got any answer yet from SSp-egineering.
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted June 18, 2006 If anyone can get a good shipping price then rebuilding a beam is not a problem or suppling any parts, But I would try your local dealer first
Pete C 0 Posted June 20, 2006 I tried emailing SSP Engineering a while back and have had no reply... did the same for a mate a couple of years ago too and no answer. What a way to run a business!
nanouk 1 Posted June 20, 2006 YEESSSS!! I did call them on the phone, the number seems to be constantly occupied, but yesterday I came thru! Very nice people, when asking them why they don´t answer the mail (here comes the good part) they said that there was so many orders on the mail, 17.000 last time they were looking, that there was no point in reading the mails anymore! : ) Not a bad business at all. Tomorrow I will recieve a price on the shipping. But not on the e-mail. I newer before heard any story like this, I will by the beam to any price.
nanouk 1 Posted June 20, 2006 "If anyone can get a good shipping price then rebuilding a beam is not a problem or suppling any parts, But I would try your local dealer first" The local dealer was not very helpful, I think they vant me to scrap the car and buy a new one. I,m afraid we dont have the same nice culture "preserwing" old cars as you have in England. I´m not shure about that word either.
