Guest Ictoan Posted June 14, 2006 Is the long stud, attached to the end of the BE1 gearbox and attached to the gearbox mount, meant to be easily removed? We recently changed my box but were unable to undo this stud on either box and were worried that it may be attached to something inside. It would have it so much easier to refit the box if we could have removed it without fear of damaging something. Thanks, Tim
t16ryan 1 Posted June 14, 2006 yes mate that can be removed, if its the bit i think your talking about that you then bolt up though the mount?
Guest Ictoan Posted June 14, 2006 Bolts up to the bracket in the battery tray area. We tried to remove it but it was stuck fast and we were afraid to pull too hard in case we damaged something. On the two boxes I have it is stuck solid! Tim
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted June 14, 2006 With the right sized deep reach socket it definately should come undone. I remove them as a matter of course when I do a gearbox swap as it means I have to lower the engine less to get it clear of the inner wing. Graham.
inferno 1 Posted June 14, 2006 (edited) fail in that, i find it also helps to remove the battery tray and bracket . 4 13mm bolts and it means you wont need to undo the gearbox stud. can be a bit tricky putting the 13s back in with gearbox in situ. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted June 15, 2006 Still needs lowering further than if you remove the stud though. Graham.

huxley309 0 Posted June 15, 2006 (edited) Got myself a set of vortex socket wrenches which allow threads to pass through ideal for this sort of job, wouldn't use a 12 sided socket or ring spanner as it's easy to round it off.....iirc it's some sort of bi hex 16mm iirc Edited June 15, 2006 by huxley309
Guest Ictoan Posted June 15, 2006 Thanks for the advice guys. We were removing the battery tray but it was still a very tight fit getting the stud past the inner wing. Looks like the box may have to come out again as third gear is a bit noisy. Selects OK but there is a kind of rumbling noise until the clutch is released.
