Can You Get 1144 On Shoes?

Recommended Posts

Well, he's managed to fry the brakes on the other end of the 306 today, got a soft pedal and a bit of fade, the drums were hot to the touch, which was wierd, they've been overhauled recently so they're I don't think they're binding or anything. I was just wondering if you can 1144 for the shoes to help cope with the heat.

Anyone else got this kind of heat buildup on the rear of a 306 before? I know the drums are fairly small, but surely they shouldn't generate that much heat on the road (Happened while switching between a few motorways, so after 3-4 decelerations from 80-ish within a few minutes.)

Either that or go to discs on a gti6 beam :)

Hmm, seem OK now, even after repeated stops, must just have stuck once.

On the upside the pedal feel is now great after compressing the hot shoes with the handbrake.

Drums will always be too hot to touch even after light braking, they can build up more heat than disks due to enclosed design

They were hot enough to start smelling though.

Compensators are built into the cylinders. They're only 6 months old. Must just have stuck slightly I suppose. Been out in in twice and hammered the brakes and had no smell since. Still get a little fade from the rear though, but the brakes were being deliberatly overheated, so no real worries there.

Think we'll lube the handbrake cables out just in case.

Back to the orignal question, can you get 1144 on brake shoes?
