robgti 0 Posted June 12, 2006 was changing my steering rack today then noticed i had a split in my drivers side driveshaft so i proceeded to pull it out when i just wont move. took the two hooks off the middle joint bit but wont come out. to make matters worse i think the end has come off. any ideas on how to get it out? smighall 1 Posted June 12, 2006 Need to get a long screw driver or some some kind of punch and hit the intermediate bearing with a hammer as it can become seized in the mount housing. Just hit it, then turn the shaft, hit again etc etc. It may take a fair bit of force, just try your hardest not to mark it too much
robgti 0 Posted June 12, 2006 does it matter if i mark it when im putting a new one on anyway? tanks for your reply
Ryan 99 Posted June 12, 2006 You might be able to get a bar or a chisel in between the rear mount and the metal part of the CV joint and lever it out. The bearing corrodes into the rear mount and it's a swine to get out.
jeremy 70 Posted June 12, 2006 I've had to do exactly what Smighall suggest, and as you are not keeping the shaft hit the drift with the hammer as hard as you like.
Guest rick03054 Posted June 12, 2006 If it's really stuck take the mount off too. You can just belt it off when it's all off the car.
smighall 1 Posted June 12, 2006 If your not keeping the shaft, feel free to imagine the bearing as someone you really really hate and go for your life! Will have it out in no time that way!

robgti 0 Posted June 14, 2006 (edited) ok been trying to take my mount off and no luck. got it off the block but just wont pull out as there is things in the way. any help? Edited June 14, 2006 by robgti
Guest rick03054 Posted June 14, 2006 If you got all 4 of the bolts off there are still 2 little dowel things that hold in in place on either side, just lever it around a bit and it'll come off. I've no idea why the dowels are there, probably just to locate the thing as you put the bolts in, so don't worry too much if they break.
