ive got an XS, and i want to put an S16 lump in it, but im just worried about the wiring, as it had a 1360cc Tu3s carburettor engine and i want to put a XU10j4 in, what im after is any advice about what looms to use and any other info you think i should know before i attempt it, i have searched the forum but i cant find any info on anyone doing it to a base model car

the car is SORN atm and isnt my daily runner so i can have it off the road for as long as i like, its also about to recieve lowered GTi suspension and subframe, wishbones... etc etc etc..., and uprated braking system. also i havnt started on any engine development yet (next few months), i really just want to know where im gonna get stuck when i do start!!! :D

Cheers

Lee

S16 shares the same management as the 2.0l Turbo i beleive.

ie the wiring is very similar so DrSuess was telling me.

maybe a search on his old posts would bring up a few things :D

well your going TU to XU so theres lots of mount issues to be tackled first, wiring o9n 306's isnt bad as the loom is kind of plug and play on all 306's, just get a 306 loom and an ECU that uses the keypad code and is supplied with the code (assume you have a keypad) then you should just plug the loom in, insert the correct code and your away. Well in a fashion, you'll need the 2.0 fuel pump and possibly tank depending on how your current pump is fitted.

To go from carb to injection you'd need to fit a GTI fuel tank as the carb tank doesn't have the connection for the fuel return hose.

no a lot of 306's had a keypad to punch in a code rather than a transponder, if yours has transponder then you need to get the transponder box and key from the donor car or get the ECU unlocked. Assuming you get a later transponder type ecu if its keypad just get it unlocked.

so in a 306, do you have to punch the code in everytime you want to start the car???

well im too lazy to be typing codes in!!! lol, so im definiently gettiing it unlocked if end up with a keypad one, how would you go about unlocking it if you had the keypad, ECU and knew the code?

places that advertise, send it off, pay around £60 and it comes back a few days later code and transponder free, that or take it into uni, get the electronics teacher to work out which chip does the code and bypass it :)

Mounts are fine. If you're using a GTI subframe anyway then its even easier. You will need the tank as said because you need the injection pump in the tank.

Are you sure his mounts will be ok sam? Later Tu engined cars had a different top mount placing, like my junior did. We had to weld in the top mount section from a later model to get the mi to fit. Not a big drama though if you have to do it.

Only the 88/E TU cars had the non XU compliant mounts from the cars I've seen (quite alot), so its safe to say that after that date it'll be fine.
