ricky1.9 0 Posted June 12, 2006 Wondering if anyone has any suggestions on which brakes would be best. What i'm after are some brakes that'll go straight on with no messing about but are uprated from the 1.9 brakes. Have been looking towards 306 gti-6, and from what i've heard they go straight on, but have seen some 4 pots mi16 brakes for sale. Didn't even realise the mi's came with 4 pots. Any advice would be grat Cheers Ricky
smckeown 1 Posted June 12, 2006 gti-6/180/307 are more than good enough for the 1.9. For a track car, get the calipers which support the thickest discs you can, that's the main ingredient for solving brake fade. Then slap on some minex 1144/1155s and you'll be sorted. Looks like your local to me too
ricky1.9 0 Posted June 12, 2006 what do you think to the mi16 4 pots if they are cheap enough? do you know anything about them? the main problem i had with the brakes on the last track day was just that there was just nothing there. pedal bit spongy and just didn't bind. never really suffered from fade. All new parts so guess that helped. Going to remake all the lines put in new servo and bits so thought i'd uprate. Yeah down south as well. in sunny Uckfield, probably not head of it though. Cheers for the help
smighall 1 Posted June 12, 2006 GTI6 with Mintex 1144 and standard discs held up more than well enough for me at Brands the other week. Out braked most things on circuit at the same time as me (albeit only in the novice class).
Rippthrough 98 Posted June 12, 2006 Didn't even realise the mi's came with 4 pots. They don't. Some 406's do.

mi16nut 0 Posted June 12, 2006 (edited) Old Leyland Princess 4-pot calipers are coded mi16 if I remember rightly; used to be the choice for kit cars, etc., but now getting long in the tooth. 307 HDi are generally thought of as a better bet than the GTi6 kit; thicker discs (26mm instead of 21mm) so more resistant to fade & with a smaller caliper piston they have less travel with a 205 mastercylinder than you'll get with the larger-pistoned 306 calipers. I've got standard Bosch pads on 307 kit & no fade on a tight track. Try the Search button, this is a common ask. Mark.
