Electric Window Removal - Manual Winder Replacement

Recommended Posts

Guest Snoop205

Hi All - been some time since I posted on here but I've got a question hopefully you can help with?!. I've just spent 2 hours whipping out loads of electrics including the electric window motors on my 205 to replace with manual winders (weight saving). I haven't got the replacement handles yet and was wondering what I need - do the handles just slot in with a cog and fix from behind? I'll be on the lookout for whatever is required if anyone has a breaker!

Looking on the parts CD it might do just this but without the two side by side to compare I think you'll need the whole mechanisim for the manual winders.

I've done the reverse .The winding mechanism is different to the electric one so you need to source all the bits first and it the winder just pushes on .Involves drilling holes into the door to fit the manual winder and its a right bloody fiddly job trying to get the the machanisms in and out of the door.

Cheers! It's strange cos it doesn't look to me like the car orginally had electric windows - it looks like they were put in afterwards - but that doesn't mean they didn't change the whole mechanism :D Might just be easier to find a couple of white manual doors LOL

manual mechs should just swap over. When i fitted electrics onto a formerly manual I just slipped the motors over manual mechs and sawed off the shaft for the handle, fixing the electric winder with a small self tapper.

Fiddly and tough on the forearms but not difficult to swap.

yep and I just got some advice from the 205 Challenge boys and apparently they do just swop over - so I've got some on the way from a breaker :) Thanks for the advice guys. You're not wrong about the arms either, I look like I've self harmed after getting my arm in almost impossible positions to extract the motors!

when you take the electric mech out i fout it easiest to take the window sills off the door but if hey are old it takes a little force then they dont go back on properly. so try not to bend them
