Water Leak

Recommended Posts

jonarob

After finding a water leak from the top pipe, I replaced it only for a week later to find a water leak from the bottom rear pipe.

Sod it thought I, and I replaced the bottom rear pipe, bottom front pipe and the metal pipe in between them because it was corroded to hell.

All is fine for about 20 minutes...

Now I'm getting a leak from somewhere near where the bottom rear hose connects to the engine (I think that's where it connects - connects to a metal bit that then pairs off to send water to the matrix I assume).

At first I thought it was my jubilee clip tightened wrong, but on closer inspection (as close as I can manage considering the awkward place it's in), I don't think the leak is coming from any of the pipes.

Anyone got any idea where it's coming from? It looks like it's coming from the bit I've labelled in the picture below. Anyone know if that's actually a water component or even what it is?

Where the heck could it be coming from? It doesn't seem to be coming from the 2 rubber pipes that go to the matrix either...

Cheers

Is that not the cambelt cover? could be the water pump leaking (like mine at the moment) Whip it off and have a look.

That's about where the cambelt is yeah. Where's the waterpump?

And are the pumps prone to leaking? How easy are they to replace?

Just did a search. I'm looking at cam belt and tensioner jobbie as well, eh?

Cripes.

Anyone know of a sure fire way to check if the water pump is the cause of my leak?

Take off the cambelt cover and have a look. The pump is bolted in beneath another mini cover. It has a small gasket that I guess can deteriorate thus causing it to leak. It should be fairly obvious if you see coolant weeping from the pump area and running down the block.

New pump and cambelt kit inc. tensioner.
